The minimum drinking age articles “Tempest in a Bottle”, by Shari Roan, “The Perils of Prohibition”, by Elizabeth M. Whelan, “The Minimum Legal Drinking Age: Facts and Fallacies” by Traci L. Toomey, Carolyn Rosenfeld, and Alexander Wagenaar, “De-Demonizing Rum: What’s Wrong with “Underage” Drinking?” by Andrew Stuttaford, are articles that represent why underage people shouldn’t be allowed to drink alcohol beverages. In the “Tempest in a Bottle”, by Shari Roan, explains that more college students signed a petition calling for a debate for whether the legal drinking should be lowered to 18 instead of 21. But each side has statistics to support its position on the age limit but most of the healthy and safety evidence falls on the age limit of 21. And statics on fatalities prove that the law works by setting the minimum legal drinking age to 21 by that the traffic fatalities of drivers 18 to 20 have dropped an estimated 13% for underage drinking and driving. It states that each additional year drinking under the age of 21 can have a greater odds on the body for develop alcohol dependence. Also a study showed that in 2003 in many other countries with a lower drinking age, they are less likely to become intoxicated compared to teens in the U.S. The “The Perils of Prohibition”, states that colleagues at Harvard School of Public Health did a survey and found that drinking early and frequently can often lead to getting sick and ill. As an example from “The Perils of Prohibition”, an intoxicated student under the drinking age had maneuvered himself into a chimney and wasn’t found until later that third day when frat brothers wanted to start up the chimney and notice him but by that time he had already died. The Prohibition states at 18 your considered adults until they want to have and alcoholic beverage in which they can’t because of the drinking age limit and they considered “disenfranchised”.
