Socialization of Child

How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society. I disagree with the speaker's assertion. Though socialization of children might play an important role in the society's destiny to some extend, ultimately the driving force behind people's attribution to society may be some other factors such as personal conviction, creative thinking and social responsibility. Besides, whether we have not yet learn how to raise children up to how we define a "better" society. Admittedly, when children are socialized properly, the socialization can help to bring a better society. For example, joining the study group help the children to improve his study ability and cooperation; a child participating in a running race help to motivate his potential; playing games with others help children enhance his/her interpersonal skills. These lessons help children to become civilized, gentle, and professional. However, when a child is socialized in an unhealthy way, he is likely to grow into one who is bad mannered or even harmful to the society, let alone bring a better society. And there is ample evidence for that. A child who often gambles outside may become a gambler who may contribute nothing to society. A child who often goes to the bar with his/her parents may someday commit murder due to drunk driving. In short, unless children are socialized in an healthy way, the socialization makes no difference in bringing a better society. More over, the speaker attributes a better society to children's socialization. And from my own perspective, there are other factors, such as personal conviction and social responsibility, other than children's socialization that play a significant part in bringing a better society and children's socialization may not be the most important one.
