Introduction

Every country is separated in two categories, MEDC and LEDC; which stands for More Economically Developed Country and Less Economically Developed Country. The countries separated in these categories have special characteristics, one of them being the population and GDP, which stands for Gross Domestic Product. In this essay we're going to compare Scotland (MEDC) and Ecuador (LEDC).

Scotland

SCOTLAND IS A COUNTRY LOCATED IN WESTERN EUROPE. IT'S AN MEDC COUNTRY WITH A TOTAL OF US$194 BILLION. IT HAS AN AREA OF 78,772 KM2, WITH ABOUT 5,144,200 PEOPLE. FOR THE EIGHTH YEAR IN A ROW, THERE WERE MORE DEATHS THAN BIRTHS, ALTHOUGH THE DIFFERENCE OF 2,300 WAS THE SMALLEST. IN 2005 THE BIRTH RATE WAS 10.7BIRTHS TO 1,000 KM2 AND THE DEATH RATE WAS 11.0 DEATHS TO 1,000 KM2. IN2005, THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE MOTHER AT CHILDBIRTH WAS 29.5EDINBURGH IS THE FINANCIAL SERVICES CENTRE OF SCOTLAND AND THE SIXTH LARGEST FINANCIAL CENTRE IN EUROPE IN TERMS OF FUNDS UNDER MANAGEMENT, BEHIND LONDON, PARIS, FRANKFURT, ZURICH AND AMSTERDAM, WITH MANY LARGE FINANCE FIRMS BASED THERE, INCLUDING: THE ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND; HBOS; AND STANDARD LIFE. AS OF NOVEMBER 2007 THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN SCOTLAND STOOD AT 4.9%; LOWER THAN THE UK AVERAGE AND THAT OF THE MAJORITY OF EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES. ALTHOUGH THE BANK OF ENGLAND IS THE CENTRAL BANK FOR THE UK, THREE SCOTTISH CLEARING BANKS STILL ISSUE THEIR OWN STERLING BANKNOTES: THE BANK OF SCOTLAND; THE ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND; AND THE CLYDESDALE BANK. THE CURRENT VALUE OF THE SCOTTISH BANKNOTES IN CIRCULATION IS £1.5 BILLION. SCOTLAND HAS MANY AVERAGE+ PEOPLE LIVING. SCOTLAND'S GDP PER CAPITA IS ABOUT US$39,680.

ECUADOR

Ecuador is a country located in South America. It's a Spanish speaking country with an area of 256,370 km2; it has about 13,922,000 people. The chart below shows about the population in Ecuador.

It says that about 305 thousand babies were born on 2008 and about 72 thousand people died. The chart also shows that many people leaved the country. In 2000 the president adopted the US dollars which caused economy crisis. About 45 % of the citizens are below the poverty line. A large part of the Ecuadorian industry is the oil. Other industries include textiles, chemicals, wood products, metal work, paper products, and plastics.

The population pyramid shown above is of Ecuador, 2008. It's a "Rapid" pyramid, which means that the population is going up very rapidly. There are about 5760 thousand people under 18 years of age and about 1112 thousand people over 65 years of age. In 1995 Ecuador got in a fight with Peru, which may have caused for many adults to fight and loose their lives. Also 2 years before the war event, there was a natural incident which caused 300 peoples death. In a few years Ecuador will have a lot more citizens than it does now. It's GDP per capita is about USD $3100

Conclusion

In these two countries, the main difference is the total money they have. In Scotland the people there are mostly average+, while in Ecuador almost half of the people are in poverty conditions. Another difference is the population, Ecuador has many more people that Scotland; probably because people in Ecuador does not know how...
