This has left many effects on the patient’s short term as well as long term. One of the long term effects on a patient at winterbourne is they have been emotionally so distressed and stopped using the bathroom and toilet. This has left him urinating on cups because of what happened to him when he used the toilet at Winterbourne. This has left him emotionally scarred for a period of time and may take a long time to over come that fear. Simon has also been effected by the physical abuse from winterbourne. One of the short term effects of the abuse was Simon’s negative behaviour. The negative behaviour was a result of the frustration and anger he felt inside. Therefore he took his frustration out on the health care workers at winterbourne which left him verbally and physically abused. However they flipped the story on his record books making it seem like he was aggressive and out of control for no particular reason and even doctors described him as ‘dangerous’.

Simone who was a patient in winterbourne view was just like Simon abused more frequently. She was only 18 years old at the time. Reports show she has dialled 999 and said she wanted Wayne arrested this however this was taken as a joke. As a punishment she soaked with cold water and left to freeze outside in the cold. One of the short term effects is that it left her feeling marginalized. This basically means treating a person insignificantly which on a whole describes the way that Simone has been treated. One of the long term effects is that emotionally she could suffer from low self esteem and self concept as she is abused and treated like dirt. Emotionally she could be feeling depressed of all the abuse and this could result to feelings of worthlessness. Low self esteem can result to anger and frustration at people and not trusting people in the long term. It can also cause negative behaviour between her and her family.
