Question 1: Four basic functions of management:
Planning- to set directions
Organizing- to assemble resources and systems
Leading- to create workforce enthusiasm
Controlling- to ensure desired results

Question 3: Emotional Intelligence is the ability to understand oneself and manage relationships effectively. Four competencies: Self awareness: ability to understand your own moods and emotions Self-regulation: ability to think before acting and to control disruptive impulses Motivation: ability to work hard and persevere

Empathy: ability to understand the emotions of others
Social skill: ability to gain rapport with others and build good relationships

Question 2: Organizational culture is a shared set of beliefs and values within an organization. It is the “character” of the organization according to Meg Whitman, former eBay CEO. Organizational culture helps in running the company with values and principles. It also helps every individual to understand the right and wrong personal behavior within an organization. Question 5: Distributive leadership is the sharing of the responsibility for meeting group task and maintenance needs. This type of leadership can be seen within a team or sometimes depending on the need can be brought from outside. The main objective is to get the job done. If someone is an expert in an area they will get the responsibility to make things happen in that area and will direct the whole team accordingly based on their knowledge and experience. This is more of a necessity based model wherein depending on the need the leader changes within the team or from outside the team. There is no traditional top-down kind of leadership here and there are no authority trappings of any supervisors either. To facilitate shared team performance activities or functions vary. Question 7: Constructive stress or eustress, helps us in a positive way. This is the kind of stress that we have before exams which makes us study hard or get the job done before a deadline, it occurs at moderate levels. This kind of stress is useful during difficult times as it prompts us to work hard; stimulates creativity and encourages diligence. Most of the last minute success that happens in one’s life is due to constructive stress. Destructive Stress or distress is detrimental for both individual and the organization. This is the kind of stress that leads to job burnout, meaning, loss of interest in and satisfaction with a job due to stressful working conditions. We feel exhausted, emotionally and physically leading to lack of initiative taking and running from responsibilities. When we see people throwing things from their desk or showing extreme anger we should know that they are under destructive stress. People attacking others and committing crimes like “desk rage” and workplace rage” are extreme versions of destructive stress. Coping Mechanisms:

Emotion- focused coping- regulate emotions or distress. Here trying to forget what happened and accepting sympathy and understanding from someone is the strategy. Looking at the positive side and making one-self aware that there is hope helps fight distress. Problem- focused coping- manage the problem that is causing the distress. This involves a person to change his or her mind. Strategies like making a plan and following it works well here. Being firm and fight for what one wants is the rick to cope with distress. Question 10: Tuckman’s Five Stages of Team Development:

Forming: members get to know each other and try understanding acceptable behavior. This is the stage where the real task is determined and group rules are defined. Storming: The team undergoes many changes during this stage. This is the stage when there are emotions and tensions among the group members. During this stage conflicts may occur.
